So, the Trayvon case is coming to an end. The jury has some words to say and show that opinions diverge a lot. I actually have not much to say about it. It is a case of lower class black guy gets shot by upper class hispanics. Now, I don't have a problem with either, but I am living in Europe, were the only Black guys and Hispanics you see, are either upper class Africans and very nice or Spaniards and old-school Europeans at that.
The US is different and the description of ghettos as poor, violent areas is not an understatement. They live in different cultures, especially since Zimmerman was born to a richer than usual family. That's why he was in the neighbourhood watch or rather that's why he lived in an area with such a watch.
I can only join the statement of the jury and acquit Zimmerman of all charges, because the case against him is weak. In dubio pro reo holds in this case, as in all others of doubtful evidence. The state attorney really did present a weak case and many of the wittnesses for the prosecution were not that convincing. The defense presented a solid case for self-defence. Perhaps it would have been different imo, if they didn't have a forensic investigator doing the balistics. However, due to the balistic evidence, it was clear that Trayvon was on top of Zimmerman, when he shot him, probably dealing fist damage.
Now my European colleagues might complain that Zimmerman should not have shot, that it was only fists and no knife and that it wouldn't have been that bad. I disagree and believe that those guys never have been beaten up or don't understand the pain you are going through.
If this was your everday black vs. hispanic late-teen thing, than we have to people who are short-tempered and ready for violence. In this case none of the two will de-escalate and a fight would be brutal and probably final (as it turned out). I think both could have acted differently to diffuse the situation, but I believe Zimmerman when he says that it was a measure of last resort and that he only wanted to confront Trayvon.
Of course, the public sees it differently and the typical black instigators (and you really have to call them that) jump to conclusions and to the occassion. The worst is that the media is not guiltless, because they portrayed it as an issue between blacks and whites, which is not true. It is also not a case of the debatable stand-your-ground laws in the US.

RAI and beauty contests - some thoughts
Well, it seems like RAI is going to cancel the beauty contest of Miss Italia. The reason is most notably that in this feminist world, it is just not good form to publicly display naked women (see the beef Robin Thicke got from feminist small minds @ the Vice magazine). It seems that while it is entirely true and valid that men look at beautiful girls, it is not ok to discuss or celebrate this. Perhaps part of that reason is that they don't like the truth about it, or the truth that they themselves enjoy this kind of attention. I don't know, I never understood it and I never saw men in everyday life acting demeaning because of it.
However, this is not the point I want to make here, but rather that this kind of oppression is eerily similar to the kind of opposition to naked bodies in the Middle East. Both are lead by a majority and both believe themselves to be the pinnacle of enlightenment. Though each other, they would hate their guts. The existence of femen activists proves this and if you hear what Islamists trash-talk about Feminists behind closed curtains, you would blush or fear for your life.
And yet they use the same reasoning, the same fanatical devotion and moralizing. They are in their means and their ends pretty similar and that should make every normal man and woman uncomfortable. In the East the ugly head of Islamism engulfs more and more arabic states and in the west, the former pillar of relatively free societies, the ugly head of oppressive female socialism is making its round.

Erneuerbare Energien Gesetzt und EU
Die europäische Union ist zur Zeit dabei das EEG Deutschlands unter die Lupe zu nehmen und zu entscheiden, ob es eine verbotene Subvention für die Industrie darstellt. Viele deutsche private Steuerzahler sind ob ihrer hohen Stromrechnungen gespannt auf das Urteil, erhoffen sie sich doch davon eine Reduktion ihrer seit Jahren steigenden Rechnungen.
Das EEG hat zur Zeit ein Schlupfloch, dass es Deutschland erlaubt Industriestrom im europäischen Vergleich wettbewerbsfähig anzubieten. Viele andere Länder sind davon genervt, ist doch Deutschland mit seiner Energiewende zu einem Risikofaktor geworden. Man kann sich natürlich auch fragen, warum genau diese Subvention so schlimm sein soll, nicht aber Agrarsubventionen z.B. Es mag sein, dass dies hauptsächlich der Tatsache geschuldet ist, dass Agrarsubventionen nur außerhalb der EU als Problem gesehen werden und deshalb die meisten EU-Länder am Tropf hängen.
Wenn das EEG von der EU als unzulänglich erklärt wird, bleibt dann nur noch die höhe des Strafmaßes. Als Gegner der Energiewende würde ich gerne die gesamte EEG-Umlage kippen sehen, jedoch wird es wahrscheinlich darauf heraus laufen, dass der Teil, welcher die Industrie betrifft, gekippt wird. Dies dürfte für Deutschland mehrere negative Folgen nach sich ziehen.
Es mag sein, dass am Anfang tatsächlich die Strompreise sinken oder konstant bleiben, da die Industrie den Löwenanteil übernimmt. Allerdings dürfte dies für viele deutsche Unternehmen das aus in D bedeuten. Ihre Produkte oder Produktionsprozesse werden unrentabel und über kurz oder lang ins Ausland verlagert. Die Jobs werden netto-exportiert. Arbeitslosigkeit wird steigen und Wirtschaftswachstum wird fallen. Wie stark, dass hängt letztlich vom Endpreis ab und wie viel Luft viele Unternehmen in ihren Bilanzen noch sehen.
Doch das ist auch nur eine Verzögerungstaktik, denn es wird den Strompreisanstieg zwar bremsen, aber nicht auf lange Sicht begrenzen. Der Gesetzgeber wird andere Wege finden müssen, will er vermeiden, dass alles über die EEG-Umlage als Preisanstieg bei den Konsumenten ankommt. Dies wird wohl bedeuten direkt aus der laufenden Kasse zu subventionieren, was den Staat teuer zu stehen kommen wird.
Die Alternative wären steigende Kosten bei Industrie und Privathaushalten bzw. eine langsame Wohlstandsbremse.
Letztlich wird das Ende der EEG dafür sorgen, dass das Erwachen in D früher kommen wird, als erwartet. Denn anstatt die Schmerzen des Mamut-Sozialismusprojekts Energiewende weiter rückstellen zu können, wird die deutsche Regierung dann umso eher damit konfrontiert.
Mal schauen, wie unsere ökologisierte Bevölkerung dann wählt, nach ihrer fanatischen Ideologie oder doch pragmatisch auf den Geldbeutel bedacht. Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzungen auf deutschen Autobahnen
Immer mal wieder wird diese Sau durchs Dorf getrieben. Meist von irgendwelchen SPDler oder Grünen. Der Grund ist klar, der Stammwähler dieser Parteien sitzt in einer Großsstadt und fährt mit den Subventionen der Dörfler Zug (mach ich übrigens auch). Gleichzeitig kann er natürlich so egoistisch sein und andere dazu zwingen ihren Weg zur Arbeit zu verlangsamen.
Schon heute sind fast alle Autobahnen mit einem Tempolimit ausgestattet. Manche auf technisch neuem Niveau, wie die Strecke zwischen Stuttgart und München, die mit einem System ausgestattet ist, dass je nach Aufkommen eine 120 km/h Begrenzung anzeigt. Alles in allem würden jedoch die Japaner (welche eines der modernsten Verkehrsleitsysteme haben) über diese altertümliche Technik nur lachen. Weder funktioniert es sehr gut, noch wird hier wirklich nach wissenschaftlichen Linien geschaltet. Eine Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzung, die Verkehrsaufkommen-abhängig ist, ist nur notwendig, weil Congestion Pricing in Deutschland verpöhnt ist. Es würde bedeuten, dass ähnlich wie bei anderen begrenzten Gütern, der Preis der Autobahn steigen würde, wenn sich mehr Leute darauf bewegen.
Doch alles in allem möchte ich wieder auf dir Argumentation zruück kommen, dass man doch ein Tempo 200 nicht braucht. Das ist gerne der Satz, den einem der gemeine Grüne entgegen wirft. So viel schneller kommt man dann doch auch nicht ins Ziel!
Nun ja, schauen wir uns es doch mal genauer an.
Ein durchschnittlicher Pendler macht auf einer Fahrt zwischen 40 und 80 km. Nehmen wir doch einfach die goldene Mitte mit 60 km. Am Tag macht das dann 120 km.
Wenn er das mit 120 km/h auf der Autobahn zurück legen würde, dann käme er ungefähr auf 60 min hin und zurück. Das entspricht im Durchschnitt dem, was deutsche Arbeitgeber annehmen.
Wie sähe das ganze denn bei der Möglichkeit des "Rasen" mit 200 km/h aus: 36 min für hin und zurück.
Ok, 200 kann man wahrscheinlich nicht durchfahren, also gehen wir von moderaten 180 km/h aus:
Es bleiben immer noch 40 min, d.h. 20 min Ersparnis am Tag.
20 min mehr, die ich für etwas nutzen kann, was mir wichtig ist (Familie, Freunde oder Sport - 20 min länger joggen, dass rechnet sich!).
Doch das bleibt ja nicht so. Ein Jahr hat 52 Kalenderwochen (KW), ziehen wir davon 6 Wochen Urlaub ab und wir haben noch 46 KW. Die meisten Pendler arbeiten 5 Tage die Woche. Dies macht nach Adam-Riese:
46 * 5 * 20 min = 4600 min = 76 h = 3,2 Tage!
Ich gewinne also 3 Freizeittage im Jahr dazu, wenn ich nicht gezwungen werde mit 120 km/h zu fahren.

Some Questions on Henderson re Atkinson/Krugman
Here Henderson gives his two cents on the debate between Krugman and Atkinson regarding taxes and wealth. While I am neither a friend of Krugman nor Atkinson and not even halfway aligned with any thought. I think that the number of 60 to 75% is really high in percent of income terms. I also find it baffeling how they arrive at exactly these numbers. Is it guess-work or is this rooted in deeper optimization of tax numbers. Did they do a general partial differential equation that yielded these values? If yes, what where the differences in variables and coefficients?
I am not surprised that Krugman didn't come out against wealthy men not having earned their wealth, because he himself is not a member of the poverty club. Atkinson is even less willing to join this club.
Remarkable however was Krugmans answer to whether there is a financial innovation that was unambigiously good. Well, is there ANY innovation where nobody could find fault and negative consequences. The automobile displaced horse carriages, certainly a drawback for them, and uses up fossil fuels. The train wastes uranium, nature or steel, depending on your views on energy creation.
In my view there no pareto-optimal inventions, neither in the financial sector, nor in any other. There are always some that lose, although it might be better overall for a lot of people by default (because they opt for it!). I still think that commodity options and futures are important financial instruments that have yielded more good than bad (not so much HFT imo, but this is mostly because of people and not much more).
Yeah, I think all leftists and even some rightists favor a world-wide tax cartel to punish the evil evaders. I wonder whether they thought that through and based it on more than jealousy. What if the rich would forgoe extra economic activity due to shielded income? What if they would change their mind and stop investing and earning money, because in the end the extra buck is not worth the time-spent?
I believe this is not the world, we would want to live in, especially not in the US or in Europe. It would mean that the rich would stop buy luxury items and those items are the bread and parcel of most of Europe's and USes high tech industry. What if Bill & Melinda Gates would stop funding their charities, I doubt that would be a pleasant outcome; especially for the poor.
I concur and imo, this is frightening. He actually believes that a government body should use ideology to hunt down its enemies. This is an indication that for the "bastardized" US liberalism, he would advocate an autocracy as better than a democracy.

That's a little bit too topical." My guess is that the audience felt uncomfortable admitting what the IRS did. This is actually one of the few things about Krugman that I like: he will sometimes "go off the reservation" and admit certain things that "his side" doesn't like to admit. Of course, in this case--and here's what I don't like--Krugman seemed to approve of what the IRS did.

Fukushima - Strahlenbelastung im Grundwasser?
Gerade habe ich mir diesen Schlagzeilen beladenen Artikel auf FAZ.Net durchgelesen. Ist also wirklich das Grundwasser so außerordentlich schädlich belastet? Was sind denn die Grenzwerte und wie groß ist der Abstand zur lebensgefährlichen Dosis?
Nun ja, interessant ist schon mal, dass die FAZ von der 50x Strontium-Menge spricht, dass Radio von 5x und die BBC von 30x. Was stimmt denn nun? JapanToday hat eine gleich viel bessere Einschätzung:
Testing of groundwater showed the reading for strontium-90 increased from 8.6 becquerels to 1,000 becquerels per liter between Dec 8, 2012 and May 24, Fukuda said. The elevated reading of strontium is more than 30 times the legal limit of 30 becquerels per liter.
Und wie schädlich ist jetzt ein Becquerels? Nun, Becquerels geben in erster Linie nur die Halbwertszeit an.
Man kann jedoch on Becquerel auf Sievert schließen, die Einheit für eine Aktivdosis, d.h. die biologisch schädigende Strahlung. Die Konversionsrate ist abhängig von dem strahlenden Grundstoff. In unserem Fall ist das Strontium-90:
H = 2.8 * 10^-8 Sv/Bc * A (Bc/l) = 0,028 mSv/l
1 Liter verstrahltes Wasser würden also einer Strahlungsdosis von 28 muSv entsprechen. Was würde nun ein Einwohner in dieser Gegend bei einem Tagesverbrauch 126l (durchschnittliches Nutzwasser für eine Person in D) abbekommen:
38,7 mSv/a. In Japan wurde die Strahlendosis für Tepco-Mitarbeiter gerade auf 250 mSv/a erhöht.
Nun, erstmal zur Information, wie sah es denn beim bisher schlimmsten Unfall der Welt aus:
Für das erste Jahr nach dem Reaktorunglück von Tschernobyl wurde eine zusätzliche durchschnittliche effektive Dosis von 1,0 mSv/a in Bayern und 0,1 mSv in Nordrhein-Westfalen errechnet. Die derzeitige zusätzliche Strahlenexposition in Deutschland durch den Reaktorunfall beträgt noch ca. 16 µSv/a.
Hier mal ein paar vergleichende Strahlendosen über ein Jahr:
1 - 40 mSv/a - natürliche Strahlenbelastung zwischen 0 und 10 km Höhe (Flugzeugreise):
1.9 mSv/a - Medizinische Anwendungen
1 mSv/a - unbedenkliche Strahlendosis
20 mSv/a - Grenzwert für eine Person, die mit strahlenden Stoffen arbeitet.
100 mSv/a - Umsiedlung notwendig!
150 mSv/a - Klinisch nachweisbare Erkrankungen
Die Werte im Wasser sind also erhöht und man muss das Leck im Tank dicht machen, aber bisher ist es noch kein Grund eine neue Katastrophe herauf zu beschwören.

Man kann jedoch on Becquerel auf Sievert schließen, die Einheit für eine Aktivdosis, d.h. die biologisch schädigende Strahlung. Die Konversionsrate ist abhängig von dem strahlenden Grundstoff. In unserem Fall ist das Strontium-90:
H = 2.8 * 10^-8 Sv/Bc * A (Bc/l) = 0,028 mSv/l
1 Liter verstrahltes Wasser würden also einer Strahlungsdosis von 28 muSv entsprechen. Was würde nun ein Einwohner in dieser Gegend bei einem Tagesverbrauch 126l (durchschnittliches Nutzwasser für eine Person in D) abbekommen:
38,7 mSv/a. In Japan wurde die Strahlendosis für Tepco-Mitarbeiter gerade auf 250 mSv/a erhöht.
Nun, erstmal zur Information, wie sah es denn beim bisher schlimmsten Unfall der Welt aus:
Für das erste Jahr nach dem Reaktorunglück von Tschernobyl wurde eine zusätzliche durchschnittliche effektive Dosis von 1,0 mSv/a in Bayern und 0,1 mSv in Nordrhein-Westfalen errechnet. Die derzeitige zusätzliche Strahlenexposition in Deutschland durch den Reaktorunfall beträgt noch ca. 16 µSv/a.
Hier mal ein paar vergleichende Strahlendosen über ein Jahr:
1 - 40 mSv/a - natürliche Strahlenbelastung zwischen 0 und 10 km Höhe (Flugzeugreise):
1.9 mSv/a - Medizinische Anwendungen
1 mSv/a - unbedenkliche Strahlendosis
20 mSv/a - Grenzwert für eine Person, die mit strahlenden Stoffen arbeitet.
100 mSv/a - Umsiedlung notwendig!
150 mSv/a - Klinisch nachweisbare Erkrankungen
Die Werte im Wasser sind also erhöht und man muss das Leck im Tank dicht machen, aber bisher ist es noch kein Grund eine neue Katastrophe herauf zu beschwören.

Ein Nichtwähler
Tja, Kurt Beck fragt sich warum es immer mehr Nichtwähler gibt. Die Forsa Umfrage antwortet das dies vor allem an verwöhnten Unterschichtlern liegt, denen es gut geht und die zufrieden sind. Gleich wohl würden sie nicht wählen, weil sie mit den Politiker Persönlichkeiten und deren Berufsethos nichts anfangen können. Sie finden das die Politiker nicht mehr die kleinen Leute vertreten, was den dominierenden grün schwarzen Zeitgeist überraschen sollte. Und es nicht tut.
Ich kann mich in dieser Studie nicht wieder finden. Ich wähle nicht, weil es an keine guten alternativen gibt und ich in einer Demokratie immer eine unterdrückte Minderheit sein werde. Das gibt mir aber auch eine einzigartige Sicht auf die Dinge. Es ist diesem Zustand zu verdanken das ich Demokratien misstraue und glaube das es ohne ein anständiges Grundgesetz bald keine freiheitlichen rechte mehr gäbe. Man schaue sich nur prism an...

Daily Highlight - Sunday 16th June, 2013
So, while I was out today because of the nice weather, I didn't have the time to look a lot up or write even an article. So it will be links galore today. A little off-topic, I think I got a sunburn from walking on the German Bundesstraße, which was incidentially blocked for car traffic today. No motorized vehicles were allowed on the freeway. What was interesting however, was the fact that bicycle users are as unfriendly and egoistic when they are alone on the roads than when they have to share it with cars. In my opinion this is a little bit of a problem and destroys lots of the nimbus of supreme bicycling, which is always preached by the Ecos of our age.
Well, speaking of ecology, there seems to be a bit of a stir-up on the Biotech GM crops front. It seems that GM crops have turned up, where they should not. I mean, really, there is no sane way they could have turned up there, except an insane person put them there. It could have been an activist (most likely) or a stupid farmer (could be as well). Why is everything else unlikely, well, because Oregon doesn't have much in the way of GM crops around. Read it here at Reason.com.
The second most interesting development comes from Twitter, which was not only resilient to the threats by the NSA and PRISM, but also stayed their course. However, it seems that the US has still a higher right to speech than most self-proclaimed anti-americans believe. It is worse in Europe, though, because here Twitter faces charges and hefty fees for NOT COMPLYING with Fance's identity requesition program. So much for a "better" Europe.
Claudia Roth the Weltenbummler from the Green party in Germany, speaks up for the Turkish people. While I am in general in favor of the protesters and that they ripped apart the joyful masquerade of the Turkish authoritarian government, I don't think they are helped by a German politician protesting with the crowd. It is ridiculous and dangerous. I would have no problem with Frau Roth, if she had quit her job and would have gone their as a private citizen. However, she is a part of the German Bundestag and thus she went there at least in a partial position as a representative of the German people (probably also on their dime). I can however think of better people suited for that ambassadorial task than Mrs. Roth.
It's just not her place, and it only helps the Turkish government in painting the protesters as foreign fueled and instigated. He can also use it to press Turkish politics against German.
And that she used her status as a representative of the German government as to not getting arrested, is plain misuse of her mandate. Plus, I really don't like this "woman".
